Trekking
Inca Trail – Machu Picchu – Cusco
- Duration: 06 days
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Maximum Height: 5,200 meters.
- Season: March to January
Day 1: Arrive in Lima, Peru. Same day travel to Cusco and to your hotel.
Day 2: In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel in a private bus and we will travel 82 km. to the place where we will begin our hike. We will need to pass through a Government control and over a bridge immediately prior to beginning our hike. We will eat lunch at Llacta Pata, the first archeological site of importance. We will then continue to camp Wuayllabamba, 2,300 m. The hike takes approximately 5-6 hours.
Day 3: On this day we will climb to the highest point on our route, Warmihuañusca Pass, 4,200 m. We will be surrounded by beautiful mountains. After descending for 20 minutes, we will enjoy a hot lunch and then continue to the Pacay Mayu complex and then on to our second camp. The hike takes approximately 6-7 hours.
Day 4: On this day we will hike to the archeological complex of Runkuragay, a fascinating place for its subtle mix of Inca architecture surrounded by nature. We will continue toward Saya, where we will enjoy change in the geography and a switch from mountain to high dry jungle climate to the lush tropical vegetation – the edge of the jungle. On this route we will encounter the Phuyupatamarca archeological group, and in 2 hours we will arrive in Wiñayhuayna. The total hike takes approximately 7-8 hours.
Day 5: On this day we continue our route toward Intipunku. After an hour of hiking we will wait for the sunrise to enjoy the lighting and the panoramic view of Machu Picchu. Afterwards, we will continue toward the ultimate goal, our Machupicchu, which is almost within reach. We will have a 3-hour guided tour through the city and sufficient time to climb the mountain Waynapicchu. After this great experience, we will take a bus to Aguas Calientes, where there will be lodging.
Day 6: Today is a free day to explore the little town or visit again Machupicchu and then travel by train from Aguas Calientes to Cusco and to a hotel in Cusco.
