Llamac to Mt. Cuyoc – Cajatambo

Day 1: Arrive in Lima from your country of origin. On the same day travel to Huaraz and your hotel.
Day 2: Acclimatization day in Huaraz. Visit Laguna Churup, 4,480 meters
Day 3: Travel from Huaraz to Chiquian Llamac, 3,300 meters. From here we will begin hiking to Matacancha, 4,180 meters. We will climb 880 meters to Matacancha. The hike takes 5-6 hours and we will meet our muleteer and donkeys along the way.
Day 4: Matacancha, 4,180 meters to Mitucocha, 4,230 meters. Today we cross over the first pass, Cacanan Point, 4,700 meters. We will climb 520 meters from the camp to the Pass. After the Pass we will see the Pucacocha and Yanacocha Lagunes. The hike takes 4-5 hours to arrive at camp which is next to Lagune Mitucocha. From this camp you will see Mt. Ninashanca, 5,607 meters, Mt. Rondoy, 5,870 meters,a dn Mt. Jirishanca, 6,094 meters.
Day 5: Mitucocha, 4,230 meters to Carhuacocha, 4,280 meters. We will cross over the second pass, Carhuac, 4,650 meters. We will climb 420 meters form camp. At the Pass we will see the north face of Mt. Carnicero, 5,960 meters, Siula, 6,344 meters, Yerupaja, 6,634 meters and Toro. The hike takes 5-6 hours to Carhuacocha camp with a view of these said mountains.
Day 6: Carhuacocha, 4,280 meters to Huayhuash, 4,300 meters. Today is the hardest day of the trek and we will walk 7-8 hour. The route takes us between the 4 lagunas to the lookout. After the lookout we will see the 4 diversely colored lagunas, including Siulacocha, Small Quesillococha, Large Quesillococha, and Asulcocha. An hour and a half after the look out we will arrive at Siula Pass, 4,800 meters, where we will see all the said mountains. Upon descending, we will see Mt. Carnicero, 5,960 meters, Mt. Jurao, 5,600 meters, and Mt. Trapecio, 5,644 meters.
Day 7: Huayhuash, 4,300 meters. to Viconga, 4,430 meters. Today we arrive at Portachuelo Pass, 4,750 meters. We climb 450 meters and the route takes 5-6 hours until we arrive at the Viconga Thermal Baths. We can take advantage of the baths in the afternoon with some “mate de coca.” (tea).
Day 8: We will climb Mt. Cuyoc, 5,550 meters. We will depart early at 3:30 a.m. to summit Mt. Cuyoc, 5,500 meters. After the summit, we will return to the same camp. The climb takes approximately 9-10 hours.
Day 9: Viconga, 4,430 meters to Cajatambo, 3,380 meters. Today we hike through Pumarinri Ravine until we arrive at San Cristobal Pass, 4,150 meters. After the Pass we descend for an hour and twenty minutes, and will quickly feel the change in climate from the Peruvian coast. We will stay in lodging at Cajatambo.
Day 10: Cajatambo, 3,380 meters to Pativilca, 50 meters. At 5:30 a.m. we will leave Cajatambo by bus for Pativilca. From Pativilca we will take a taxi to Huaraz and to your hotel. At the cited day and time of your return to Lima, we will take you to the bus terminal, at which point our services end.
